When Is It an Eye Emergency?
Whenever there is an immediate risk to your eyes or vision, you should consider it an eye emergency. Rapid response is critical in these situations, so it’s vital that you contact your eye doctor as soon as possible.
While we want to address your emergency eye care needs, same-day appointments are not always available. Please call our office to ensure we can accommodate you. If you are in need of immediate medical attention, please visit an urgent care center.

Common Eye Emergencies
Some examples of accidents, injuries, or situations that could indicate an eye emergency include:
- Impact injuries to the head or eye area
- Allergic reactions
- Exposure to chemicals
- Punctures and abrasion injuries
- Foreign bodies entering the eye area
Other Possible Indications of an Eye Emergency
Some eye emergencies occur without an injury or trauma to the eye. If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should treat it as an eye emergency.
- Suddenly experience partial or complete vision loss
- Suddenly see visual obstructions, such as flashes, floaters, or blurry patches
- Experience intense and abrupt pain in one or both eyes
- Experience abrupt headaches or a dizzy feeling
- Develop severe inflammation in the area of your eyes
